Victorian pocket compass by S. Dickson Jeweller Dumfries 1855

 

 

This is a  Victorian leather cased compass made circa 1855. The compass has a nice dial and a flat blue needle and a brass cap. The compass is in excellent working order and finds North easily and precisely. The compass is fitted in a nice brown leather case in excellent condition. The lining inside the lid is also in good condition. The case has two hooks to secure the lid closed. It has a strong hinge and the lid opens and closes as it should. The inner compass measures 40 mm in diameter and the leather outer case measures 52 mm in diameter.

The jeweller Samuel Dickson , living at Dumfries,  died 5th march 1859, age 46.
